Australia Day Award Nomination Form

  • The Greater Dandenong Australia Day Awards recognise exceptional contribution by those people within our community who work selflessly and tirelessly to enrich the lives of others.

    Nominations are publicly sought for individuals whose outstanding work has made a positive contribution to the Greater Dandenong community in areas such as community service, innovation, education, the environment, the arts, sport and civic participation.

    Nomination forms must be returned before Sunday 3 November 2019

    Selection of the winners will be made by a community panel and the presentation of the awards will be made on Australia Day, Sunday 26 January 2020.

    Citizen of the Year

    The premier Australia Day award for an individual (resident only)


    Young Leader of the Year

    An award for an individual (resident only)


    Volunteer of the Year

    An award for an individual (resident only)


    Corporate Citizen of the Year

    (resident or non-resident)


    Community Group of the Year

    (residents or non-residents)



    Sportsperson of the Year

    An individual (resident or non-resident) belonging to a Greater Dandenong sports club


    Sustainability Award

    An award for an individual or group (residents or non-residents)


    Living Treasure Award

    Appointment of an appropriate Australia Day Award Winner to ‘Living Treasure’ status


  • Criteria

    • Demonstrated long term commitment to voluntary or philanthropic work in the community
    • Positive contribution to enrich the lives of others
    • Over 16 years of age
    • Demonstration of leadership qualities
    • Inspires others as a positive role model
    • Aged 16-30 years (on 26 January in year of award)


    • Demonstrated commitment in caring for the community
    • Outstanding and consistent voluntary contribution to a group, activity or community
    • An individual who has made a significant contribution to the community through their business or corporate position in Greater Dandenong
    • Demonstration of notable philanthropic or benevolent values
    • Outstanding initiatives that demonstrate leadership through innovation, engagement and community capacity building 
    • Actively engages with diverse and ‘hard to reach’ groups in the Greater Dandenong community 
    • Embraces and promotes diversity and harmony across cultures
    • For excellence in the sports arena
    • Demonstrates leadership on and off the sports field 
    • Inspires participation and involvement across the community
    • Initiatives that contribute to making Greater Dandenong a more sustainable place to live, work and play



    • Recognising an individual’s contribution that has had a lasting impact on the quality of life for the community in the areas of cultural, social, economic, artistic or sports life.
    • Nominees for other Australia Day Award categories can also be nominated for a Living Treasure Award.
